How X-Zelit works

before calving.

Rather than adjusting calcium at calving, X-Zelit prepares the cow's own calcium mobilisation system in advance, so she is ready for the sudden calcium demand of colostrum and milk.

THE PROBLEM AT CALVING

A sudden calcium demand she has to meet in hours

A sudden calcium demand she has to meet in hours

At calving, calcium demand rises sharply as colostrum and milk production begin.

If the cow’s calcium response is not already prepared, blood calcium can fall quickly, increasing the risk of clinical milk fever, subclinical hypocalcaemia and a harder start to lactation.

X-Zelit is designed to work before that pressure point — helping prepare the calcium response before calving, not after the crash.

Calving is the pressure point. She does not have days to adapt - her calcium response needs to be ready.
TWO APPROACHES

Calcium treatment — or calcium preparation?

Most programs focus on calcium when the pressure is already here.

X-Zelit works earlier. It targets the phosphorus pathway before calving, helping switch on the cow’s own calcium response before she needs it most.

CALCIUM-FOCUSED

Traditional approaches

Work directly on calcium status around calving.
1

Anionic salts / DCAD

Acidify the diet to support calcium mobilisation.
2

Dietary calcium manipulation

Low or high calcium strategies before calving.
3

Calcium boluses at calving

Top up calcium when demand has already arrived.

PHOSPHORUS PATHWAY

The X-Zelit approach

Prepares the cow’s own calcium system before calving.

Binds phosphorus in the gut

X-Zelit is an especially effective phosphorus binder.

Reduces the FGF23 signal

Temporary lower phosphorus availability helps ease FGF23.

Mobilises calcium before she needs it

The cow’s calcium response is primed before calving.
X-Zelit is a pre-calving preparation strategy. It does not wait for the crash — it helps prepare the cow before the demand arrives.
THE MECHANISM IN PLAIN ENGLISH

The phosphorus pathway that prepares calcium before calving

X-Zelit works upstream. It binds phosphorus before calving, reduces the FGF23 signal, and helps switch on calcium mobilisation before the cow needs it most.

WHAT THE RESEARCH SHOWS

Lower phosphorus before calving.
Better calcium at calving.

X-Zelit creates a temporary phosphorus dip before calving — and that is the point.

By binding phosphorus in the gut, X-Zelit helps trigger the cow’s calcium mobilisation response before calving — resulting in higher, steadier blood calcium when demand hits.
Blood calcium at calving
Higher & steadier
Higher and steadier where it matters most.

When X-Zelit is fed pre-calving, research shows improved blood calcium levels at calving with less variation between cows.

Blood phosphorus is temporarily lower while X-Zelit is fed, then recovers after calving when X-Zelit is stopped.

WHEN IT’S FED

Start before the pressure hits

X-Zelit is fed during the pre-fresh close-up period before calving.

Technical documentation refers to feeding X-Zelit for around 14–21 days (about 2–3 weeks) pre-calving, alongside controlled dietary phosphorus and calcium levels.

The goal is simple: switch on the calcium response before calving — not after blood calcium has already dropped.
Always follow the product label and feeding directions.

BACKED BY RESEARCH

Built on three connected bodies of science

The X-Zelit pathway is supported by research into zeolite feeding, pre-calving phosphorus restriction, and FGF23’s role in calcium mobilisation.

The technical PDF brings these references together and explains the mechanism in more detail.
